Today not only marks the first day of 2025, which I hope holds spectacular opportunities for you and yours, but it also marks the first post of our Enchanted Echoes new blog section. Pop back often to catch up on the latest.
Have you ever wondered why January 1st is celebrated as the official start of the year instead of say, June 1st for instance? The answer has to do with astronomical shifts, century old traditions and a mix of ancient Roman customs apparently. These customs are about new beginnings. I'm not going to ask you if you've thought long and hard about the new year's resolutions you're absolutely going to concur this year (but if you did set any, let me know by, say Easter, how you're making out with those). I don't set any. In my 'don't you tell me, I'll tell you!' mixed up little brain, I'll show myself exactly how quickly I'll break every damn one of those new rules followed up by a 'TAKE THAT!' I can be my own worst enemy. Does that sound familiar?
What I do instead of letting my conscious mind stomp off in a snit leaving my sub-conscious wondering what the hell just happened, is look at areas in my life that need improving and go from there. What does that mean? Let me share my steps.
Spend time in November and December thinking back over the past year and consider what went well, what sucked and was pretty much meh....nothing to rave about.
Make a list. Write down, yes, with an actual pen and paper, what you'd like to improve, change or remove from your life. Such as, I can't deal with this person in my space any longer (remove them...this is your life); I like my job but they are constantly asking for more than I can give (boundaries, setting clear expectations will improve the situation...but keep in mind, you work with these people, like it or not, so handle professionally.
Consider your list. Leave it sit for a bit. How long is up to you. Come back to it, add other things or situations you've thought of, scratch off anything that's resolved itself.
Finalize your list. Here, you do what is right for you. Re-write the list and stick it on your fridge, tape it to your car radio or write it month after month in your agenda. Not into paper like most people today? That's great. Type it into an electronic note, email it to yourself or, my favourite, add it to your electronic 'To Do' list. Don't let it get lost in the day to day. Set reminders on your phone to review weekly, biweekly or monthly. If it's in your 'To Do' list, just keep advancing the date forward.
Interested in giving it a try but you've missed the January 1st deadline? No big deal!! Again, it's your life, pick a date and get moving. You can choose to hit the reset button at any time. January 1st just lines up so nice and neat.
