How Do I Protect Myself

From Unwanted Energy


I’ve been asked this question so many times that I figured it was time to put it all in one place for you. At least once a day, yes, daily we need to go through the process of grounding, clearing, and protecting ourselves. What does that mean? Exactly what it says!

Grounding, clearing, and protecting is a foundational metaphysical practice for maintaining energetic balance, clarity, and—most importantly—your spiritual safety. Whether you're engaging in energy healing ✨, divination 🔮, meditation 🧘‍♀️, or just trying to get through your workday without losing your mind 🤯, this is a must.

And before you ask—yes, this works in every situation. If you can find one where it doesn’t, let me know. I love a challenge! Now, let’s break it down with a couple of relatable scenarios.

Scenario 1 – Surviving Energy-Sucking Co-Workers

You know the ones. The mind-numbing, soul-draining, emotionally exhausting co-workers who make coffee breaks ☕ feel like a marathon 🏃‍♀️. (Names have been changed to protect the innocent. 😉)

Sally: The talker. She can (and will) tell you about every single detail of her life—her kids, her husband, her weekend plans, her vacation itinerary, and the molecular breakdown of her lunch. You don’t dislike Sally, but fifteen minutes with her and you need a nap 😴.

Leonard: The Eeyore of the office 🦓. Sweet, but oh-so-sad. Everything is his fault. Everything is terrible 😔. He always has an ache, a pain, or a grievance. You walk away from a conversation with Leonard feeling like you just aged five years ⏳.

Pricilla: The mean one 😡. She’s the Miranda Priestly of your workplace (if you’ve seen The Devil Wears Prada 🎬, you get it). She intimidates 😈, criticizes 🗣️, and makes sure you know you’re never quite measuring up. You can’t always run, but you can protect! 

First and foremost, don’t judge 👀. We don’t know what these people deal with outside of work 🏠. Their stories may be far more complex than we realize. But that doesn’t mean you have to let them drain your energy! ⚡

Scenario 2 – Exploring the Metaphysical but Feeling a Little...Spooked

Some people are naturally drawn to the metaphysical world 🔮. Maybe they feel called to enhance their gifts, connect with spirits, or start reading tarot cards, but they’re scared.

What are they afraid of? Usually, it’s encountering an unfriendly spirit 👹. Yes, lower vibrational entities exist 😈, but the good news? You can absolutely protect yourself from them. I’ll cover dealing with cranky spirits in another blog, but for now, just know that grounding, clearing, and protecting is your first line of defense ⚔️.

How to Ground, Clear and Protect Like a Pro

Step 1: Deep, Focused, Cleansing Breath

Start with a deep breath in through your nose, out through your mouth. If you rushed through that breath while scrolling or multitasking—do it again. 

When I start energy work, I take three deep, focused cleansing breaths. Some days, if my mind is a chaotic mess 🌀, I need six just to settle. Take your time ⏳. You’ll know when you’re ready.

Square Breathing for Extra Focus:

If you're struggling to quiet your mind 🤔, try this simple technique:

Picture a square 🔲.

Inhale for four counts as you trace the left side of the square.

Hold for four counts as you trace the top.

Exhale for four counts as you trace the right side.

Hold for four counts as you complete the bottom line.

Repeat until your mind settles. 🧘‍♂️

(You can adjust the count to whatever feels right for you! 😊)

Step 2: Grounding – Connecting to Mother Earth

Grounding anchors your energy and keeps you from feeling scattered, overwhelmed 😖, or unbalanced.

Imagine: Tree roots 🌳 extending from your feet 👣 into the earth, traveling deep through rock and sand, anchoring you to the Earth’s core 🌍. With each breath, you feel more stable, centered, and strong.

Step 3: Clearing – Releasing Stagnant or Unwanted Energy

Throughout the day, we collect energy that isn’t ours—other people’s stress 😫, negativity 😒, and even stray emotional junk. Clearing helps reset your energy field.

Imagine: A waterfall of white light flowing through you from your crown chakra 💫 to your toes 👣, washing away anything that doesn’t serve your highest good. Watch as negativity, illness, or emotional weight flows out of your fingertips and toes, dissolving into the earth. When the water runs clear, you’re ready.

Step 4: Protecting – Establishing Energetic Boundaries

Protection strengthens your aura and keeps negativity out 🚫. This is your energetic force field against draining people, bad vibes, and unwanted spirit interference 👻.

Imagine: A shimmering bubble of light ✨ surrounding you. The outside is a translucent shade of your favourite colour 🎨. To others, it’s invisible. To you, it’s impenetrable 🛑. If you ever feel unsafe or uneasy, thicken the walls of your bubble 🫧. Anything that doesn’t serve your highest good will bounce off and return to the sender—with love. 💖

People have asked me what to do when they are claustrophobic. For some, the idea of the bubble surrounding them can cause panic. Remember, this is your bubble 🫧. It is as large or small as you need it to be. This bubble assists you to keep others out of your personal space.

When to Use Grounding, Clearing, and Protecting

  • Before and after energy work, readings, or healing sessions. 🔮

  • Before stepping into crowded or high-energy spaces. 🏢

  • When feeling drained, anxious, or overwhelmed. 😩

  • As a daily practice to maintain balance and clarity. 🌟

By making this exercise a part of your daily routine, you’ll find yourself feeling more energized, emotionally balanced, and spiritually protected. Before you know it, you’ll be able to Ground, Clear, and Protect in just a few seconds—like a pro!
